I went to San Diego a few months ago for a work trip. I had to spend a week there, DARN! So I decided to really play up the local SoCal role and hunt for an Acai Bowl. The shameful part is that I never had one before and I actually lived in Newport Beach for years! My California friends are shaking there heads, I see you guys!
Where is the best Acai Bowl?
I looked online at Yelp reviews for breakfast joints near my hotel on the way to the office. There was a cafe slightly off the beaten path but hey, for the best Acai Bowl in town, I was willing to detour! This tiny little vegan cafe about 10 minutes from my hotel just on the way to the office. It was in a strip mall and completely unassuming. I was weary pulling up. But once I got inside I felt welcomed and at peace. Maybe it was the chill vegan SoCal laid back vibe, or it was the incense that was burning. Either way, I wasn’t mad about it.
Acai Bowl, sprouted hemp seed gluten free toast with ghee and a bulletproof coffee…the breakfast to end all breakfasts
At the cafe, there were numerous options of healthy foods to choose from! But I was on a mission and I was getting that Acai Bowl damnit. So I got that with some sprouted hemp seed gluten free toast with ghee and a bulletproof coffee. Yep…I was REEEEALLY playing up the part! I cozied up at at table on the patio in my full work gear, heels and all, and sat in the California sun, just soaking up every second that was not work related. When the sweet gentleman brought me my breakfast, I paused, took several photos, and dug in. It was literally the best breakfast I had ever had and better yet…it made me feel amazing.
Oh you better believe I was going to recreate this and blog about my enlightened experience.
Where do you buy the Acai powder?
Now, I found a superfood acai powder at Sprouts that many people use in their bowls to create that bright purply smoothie. I know many stores carry said smoothie mix in the natural section. Pairing that sweet Acai smoothie with tart berries, crunchy coconut, dark chocolate and gluten free granola, sweet bananas and chia seeds, you have yourself perfection in a bowl my friends.
It is all things beautiful and doesn’t take much time to make at all. I still make them before I head out the door for work. It is worth getting up a few minutes earlier let me tell you!
For the life of me I cannot recall the name of that cute little place that offered an abundance of healthy fuel. Maybe Google “Acai Bowls in San Diego in a strip mall” and you can find it!
